Google is now hosting millions of photos from Life Magazine photo archives, from 1750 to present.  Most have never been published.  You can view the pictures here Life Photo Archive @ Google.  You can search the photos using the “Search Life Images” box, or if you use a standard Google search box insert “source:life” after your query.  Enjoy a photo journey through the last few hundred years.
