Looked out our window this morning and it was lightly snowing, one lone skier high up on the slopes. we headed into the village, bundled up against the cold (Florida wimps) and stopped for breakfast at Creperie Catherine, excellent crepes and coffee, already planning a return visit tomorrow morning. Walked to the top of the village where the main ski slopes are. There are two main slopes, a couple of "bunny slopes", and a hiking trail. Stopped at the activities center and met some of the group and booked snowmobile and sleigh rides.
This afternoon we went on a snowmobile tour through countryside around Mont Tremblant. A driver picked the group up and drove us about 30 mins into the countryside. The snowmobile center is based in an old railroad station, we donned our cold weather gear and helmets…….off to the snowmobiles. Some instruction, pull this to go, jab this to stop…and off we go. Shortly after we started the guide noticed we were missing one 0f the group, one of the machines had broken down. They phoned for a new machine and while we were waiting the guide came down the line (no passing) asking if everyone was having fun, I said we were but it was a bit slow (about 30mph), the guide said to move our machine to the front of the line (we were 4th at the time). When we got going again the guide waited for a straight stretch and blasted off ! We followed getting up to about 55mph….exhilarating !! He would then slow down to allow the group to catch up.
A lot of the route was on a disused, single lane railway track which was quite narrow, and it got narrower the faster we went ! We also climbed through some hills along very narrow tracks. On the way back (the tour lasted about 1:30hrs) the guide said we got up to 60mph on one stretch. After we got all our gear off we had a drink in the small bar, everyone had their stories of the tour and all seemed to enjoy it immensely. We are back at the hotel resting up. Tonight we are going on a sleigh ride (its going to seem very slow) with some of the Stewart group.
Megan & Joe, have a look at our pictures of, deer, a very young skier, and some children sliding on an ice shute.
You can see today’s photos here. Oh yeah, its still very cold!
