Anchored just outside Punta del Este Marina, another sunny day. Went ashore via tender, we have a map with another “suggested walk”. After reaching the light house and la Rambla we realized that this walk is more like expedition length! We cut a few corners and ended up on, you guessed it, the main shopping street. Punte del Este can be best described as modern, clean, French Riviera. The shops are varied and some of the prices are quite good. After Vicki got her fix we walked over to the beach to take some pix of a hand sculpture and then hired a cab to take us out to Casapueblo ($20 each way). Architecturally think of
white Arabic Disney world distorted. Quite amazing structure (in need of painting, being done now) It’s a hotel and studio of the famous Uruguayan painter Carlos Paez Vilaro. There is a $4 p.p. entry fee. Well worth going to for the Art Gallery, architecture, and movie on Vilaro’s life (the hotel has an iffy reputation as a place to stay, see tripadvisor). Relaxed in the bar/café area for a few minutes taking in the view with a couple of cokes ($2 ea.) Casapueblo sits on a point and you get great views of beaches (miles and miles and miles) on both sides. Our taxi had waited for us and took us back to the marina. Walked around the marina which had its own pet seal (very fat seal), just laying in the water waiting for the fishermen to throw away the fish trimmings,
which also drew a large flock of squawking seagulls. Back to the ship for a late lunch, and blueberry ice cream. Yum. Dozed on deck this afternoon, this is the life, but only for two more days. Dinner was at Aqualina specialty restaurant tonight, and it was very good. Highlights, Fois Gras, Lobster Thermidor and Soufflé (Mick) – Brie in Pastry, Lobster Thermidor and Soufflé (Vicki) . Much better experience than Prime C. Although, we did hear mumblings on the table next to us about the fillet steaks not being up to par. Entertainment tonight was Edmondo Rahme, a tenor, he sang some opera and pop stuff, according to Vicki he was OK. (I passed on this show). There has been a great variety of entertainment this cruise, something for everyone, most of it above average. Giant electrical storm outside tonight, hope it clears by tomorrow! “Our” slot machine obviously has been affected by the electrical storm.. -$20 tonight.
Special note to Joe & Megan and all children: Before the electrical storm started we thought we saw a red flash in the sky……could it be Santa on a test run ! Check out his progress here.
