Antivirus Software – Free !

November 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Most computers come bundled with either McAfee or Norton Antivirus software preinstalled.  The idea is that you will use the free trial and then sign up for the annual service…..and they have you hooked forever!  My experience with these two programs is that they are bloated system hogs,  and often cause conflicts, especially  when you load new programs.  So a few years ago I began using either AVG Anti Virus or  Avast! 4 Home Edition and both are FREE . I have never had any problems (or infections) with either.  They are simple, and use relatively low system resources.  If you try them, first down load the files with your current antivirus working.  Then turn off and remove your current antivirus.  Then complete the new antivirus installation.   After the free trial you have to register Avast then they send you a free key via email , they do not bombard you with emails after the fact.  AVG pops up a sales message once a day when it looks for updates, just close the window.  I’ll be doing a post on spyware programs after our cruise.  Both these companies have a lot of software on their sites, the links should take you to their free programs, if they do not just hunt around on the site for something like  ***** Home Edition Free.
