Like most travelers, when we travel we like to do some reading and planning on where we are going.  We have used various travel guide books over the years, Frommers, Fodors, etc.  But for the last few years we have been buying the Insight Guides or the Eyewitness Travel guides.  Both of these guidebooks are semi-soft cover, beautifully produced, glossy pages with rich color pictures.  We take them with us for reference but photocopy the maps and other info we might need during the day, this keeps the books in good condition for our bookshelf when we get home.

We are using the Brazil (Eyewitness Travel Guides) guide book for Rio and other Brazilian ports and the Insight Guide Argentina for Buenos Aries.  The Brazil book came out in October 2007 and the Argentina book in June 2007 so they are both very current as of this writing.
