You get a card in the mail about this or that offering information about a product or service, think nothing of it and fill it in and mail it back. Or you fill in a competition entry at a local home show. What you have done is create a “business relationship” with the vendor that allows them to call you for a period of time even if you are on the “National Do Not Call List”. You can read the full article By JENNIFER LEVITZ and KELLY GREENE it has good examples of the techniques marketing companies are using to try and get into your home.
Tip: If telemarketing calls bug you, and you don’t want to receive these calls:
When they do call you, request that they remove you from ALL their lists, this may help but some marketing companies may only remove from the call list for the product they are calling about.
Some competition cards require that you put a telephone number to validate the entry, you might want to think twice before filling out those cards unless you really want to be contacted.
When filling out cards do not put down your telephone number, or if you do fill it in write “No telephone solicitation” on the card.
